Governance Committees

Rock Church Ministries is organized so that it can pursue its primary task and mission of reaching and discipling people for Christ.  The following committees, in accordance with the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, have been established to help meet our mission.  They are comprised of a wide diversity of Christian leaders who provide wisdom, guidance and policy.

Committee Descriptions

Church Council

The Church Council is made of representatives from the program ministries of the church.  These representatives serve as the primary administrative body and oversee the management and programming of the church.  Their responsibilities include planning for and carrying out programs that fulfill the congregation's mission; leading the visioning and strategic planning process within the church; filling vacancies of lay leadership positions that occur between meetings of the charge conference; approving the church budget to ensure that the financial needs of the church are met and makes recommendations for the compensation, benefits, and housing for the pastor(s) and other church staff.

Staff Parish Relations Committee

The SPR Committee acts as a liaison between the congregation and its staff and clergy.  Members of this committee are elected annually at the charge conference.  The SPR is similar to a Human Resource/Personnel office in other organizations.  Their responsibilities include explaining the nature and function of ministry to the staff and the congregation; conferring with the congregation and the staff/pastor about ministry direction; assessing the ministry of the congregation and the staff/pastor at least annually; conferring and consulting with the district superintendent; supporting lifelong learning for all staff; making recommendations regarding compensation, travel, benefits and housing to the church council; recommending needed staff positions and developing written job descriptions and titles for associate pastors and staff.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee develops and administers a coordinated plan of fiscal and administrative policies and procedures for the church.  It oversees the financial health, the annual audit, provides financial direction; and communicates the church's financial condition to the Church Council.

Nominations Committee

Members of The Nominations Committee are elected annually at charge conference.  This committee serves throughout the year to guide the church council on matters regarding the leadership of the congregation (other than employed staff).  Members of this committee must be sensitive to the leadership needs of the congregation and know the capabilities, gifts, skills and experience of the persons in the congregation.

Board of Trustees

Members of the Board of Trustees are elected annually at the charge conference.  The primary role of the board of trustees is to supervise and maintain all property belonging to the congregation so that the ministries of the congregation can be effective.  The committee is entrusted to see to the proper keeping of God's house as a way to honor God and to facilitate the ministry of the local church.  At Rock Church Ministries we have a separate Board of Trustees for each campus.
